Sometime later, a soft clicking noise wakes you up. You sigh lightly, a yawn escaping your lips, but you don't open your eyes. You weren't exactly sure what the noise had belonged to, but right now you just wanted to continue sleeping. A gloved hand covers your mouth, your mind initially going to Smoker, but when the ever present smell of cigar smoke doesn't surround you, your eyes fly open meeting the amber eyes of the redhead from before. He smiles down at you.

"Shhh." He breathes lowly. "Be a good girl and handcuff yourself." He instructs quietly, holding up the handcuffs. You stare up at him, biting down on his hand and scrambling from the bed, trying to make enough noise that Smoker would hear you. You just hoped he was still in his room. You're swiftly tackled to the ground and flipped onto your back. "Yeah, I knew it wouldn't be that easy.." He growls, quickly handcuffing and gagging you. He hums and takes the gun hidden under his shirt before pressing the barrel to your forehead. "Now, how about you listen to me?"

You nod quickly, tears brimming your eyes as they go to the wall that connected your room to Smoker's. 'Please hear something...' You beg internally. 'Please...' Kid pulls you to your feet, pushing you to the fire escape lightly. You reach the window and a knock sounds on your door.

"___?" Smoker says on the other side. Kid freezes, tossing a glare toward the door.

"Get the fuck out now." He hisses against your ear dangerously. A tear slips down your cheek feeling the cool metal of the gun pressed against your back to keep you from screaming out. You slide through the window, glancing back at the door to your room, but you're pushed forward to keep walking down the stairs of the fire escape. Two flights of stairs later, you end up in a small alley behind the hotel, a familiar motorcycle parked in front of you. Kid relaxes until he hears a slam above, looking up as Smoker's head pokes out of your window. "Shit..." Kid grumbles forcing you onto the motorcycle and getting on behind you, swiftly tearing out of the alleyway in a terrifying rush.

You shut your eyes against the wind, burying your face in your arm as best as you could. The wind wasn't the only thing though, you also didn’t want to see your impending death should he wreck while driving like a madman. He laughs as he leaves town. "That was too easy!" He barks to the sky before peering at you. "Are you scared? Good. That'll make you behave." He snickers. You shudder in disgust and fear, eyes watering again. It was all so confusing. What did he even want from you? Why did he keep chasing you? Did it have something to do with what had happened the other night? Too many questions ran through your mind with no answers.

He soon pulls up to what looked like an old high school. There other motorcycles sat. He gets off, tugging you along and inside the building. Down the decaying halls, you can see a fire lit and the rest of his gang sitting around it. "Hey, you get a hold of him, Killer?" He asks as they look over. The masked blond straightens at his name.

"He said he'll meet us at the Grand Plaza when we reach the town. And to make sure the merchandise is in good condition." His low growl-like voice answers, mint green eyes flickering to you during his last sentence. Merchandise? Your eyes widen and you stop. They were going to sell you? Your whole body starts shaking, fear evident in your eyes. Kid stops, looking back at you.

"Oh, you finally get it huh?" He chuckles and removes the gag. "Go ahead, let’s hear what you have to say about this." He smirks, pulling you to the fire and making you sit down.

"W-why?" You stutter, the warmth from the fire doing nothing to calm the shaking that rattled your body. "W-Why m-me?"

"Well, drugs are too mainstream, and how often do you come across someone who can change into a cat? You're going to make us rich on the black market. Then we'll kill them and sell you again. Doesn't that sound like fun kitten?" He pats your head.

"You're monsters." You choke out. Tears streak stains into your cheeks as you look at the ground, watching them drop onto the floor below you. "Horrible monsters." They laugh at that.

"Ah maybe, but hey, if you're good, maybe we'll be able to be friends." Kid chuckles. "Hey Heat, whatcha poking at?" He asks, peering at one of the bikers a little ways away.

"I think it's an old hornet nest..." He answers.

"Oh cool, let’s burn it." Kid goes over to it. "This thing is huge..." He pulls it up from where it stuck to the floor.

"Friends?" You scoff, looking up just as the next Kid had picked up explodes, covering the redhead in something that almost looked similar to glitter. Staring in shock, you see a swarm of creatures that looked like dragonflies start to attack the group of bikers, biting and scratching at them. Upon closer examination, you could see that the winged creatures had almost human-like bodies. You scramble back as a few of them spot you, starting to fly at you. A second later, you feel that your hands are released from the handcuffs, blinking in shock. You had changed again. You didn't stop to think twice, turning and running as fast as you could down the decaying hallway.

"The fuck!?" Kid shouts, trying to swat the creatures. Some bikers take off down the hall to shake them.

"Kid! She's gone!" You hear Killer call. You speed up, briefly catching your reflection in the glass of a window. 'Ocelot?' Looking back ahead of you, you twist through hallways, not really remembering the way you had come in, but just wanting to get away as quickly as possible.

A soothing voice makes you slow, tilting your head in the direction of the melody. You follow the voice, slowly shifting back to your normal form. It didn't even register that you had changed though, your eyes glazing over slightly as you followed the wonderful music further through the hallways.

He skids to a stop, eyes on the old building, motorcycles beside it. He frowns before driving the truck up to the doors. Getting out, he glances at the underwater gun he had grabbed in his haste on his way out. He marches into the old school, immediately finding the bikers in chaos, fighting off pixies. Smoker stops briefly spotting cuffs on the ground nearby, before swiftly rushing down the hall in search of you.

You push open a set of swinging double doors, mind only barely registering that the word POOL was plastered in large stickers across both of them. A blonde man was leaning on the edge of the pool, blue eyes sparkling as you drew closer. He was beautiful to look at, skin glowing almost gold in the dim lighting of the room. A smile graces his lips as he backs away from the edge of the pool crooking a finger to tell you to follow him. He continues to sing as you sit down on the edge of the pool, your feet sinking into the water, all the while your eyes never leaving his. You lean down as he comes closer again, almost close enough to kiss you. Smoker bursts through the doors, eyes widening briefly when he spots you. "___! Get away!" He shouts. The man tsks, suddenly yanking you into the pool.

Your head cracks against the concrete on the edge of the pool, breaking the trance that the blonde had you in. The water surrounding you, once a glittering blue, was now murky and black. The bottom portion of the man was covered in grotesque scales, that looked almost muddy in the water. What shocked you the most though were the piles of bones that littered the bottom of the pool. Pieces of flesh floated around you, making you gasp and release the breath you had taken. You go to swim back up to the top, but something grabs your ankle, dragging you back down. A female, similar to the blonde man was pulling you further into the depths of the pool, her face twisted in a manic grin lined with razor sharp teeth.

You hear something hit the water above you. Smoker's arm comes around your side, boot meeting the blond's chin. He fires a bullet at the woman's head, it jerking back as the bullet pierces her skull. He turns the gun to the blond, shooting and killing him as well.

Smoker starts to swim up to the surface as inhuman shrieks from the wall sounds, making you both look over at a dark gaping hole, skulls and more bones falling from it. Smoker swiftly pulls you both up to the surface. Something pulls him down suddenly but he swiftly pushes you out of the water.

You break the surface of the water, coughing violently as you try to draw in more air. Looking around you see that Smoker still hadn't surfaced. Fear shoots through you, the murky water almost impossible to see into. Taking a deep breath, you duck back into the water, searching for Smoker.

Growling and hissing sound everywhere as something crashes into your side, claws slashing your arms and legs. You squeeze your eyes shut, wanting to scream as pain raced through you. Steeling yourself, you push forward, swimming deeper down into the pool. You spot Smoker, one of the female's wrapped around him, her teeth glinting in the water. Looking around, you spot his gun laying at the bottom of the pool, swimming towards it quickly. The creature's claws slice through your clothes as it tries to stop you. You grab the gun from the floor, fumbling with it, before turning to see the things that had been attacking you only a few inches from your face. You raise the gun, shooting it in the head. It flinches, sinking into the pool and melting into darkness.

Finding Smoker again, you freeze. You hadn't shot a gun, aside from a few seconds earlier, and you didn't want to miss and end up hitting Smoker. Smoker punches it in the face, making her jerk back, partially releasing him. The additional space would be enough for you to shoot. Raising the gun, you shoot, watching the body go limp and start to sink.

You push off the floor of the pool, shooting to the top, gasping for breath when you break the surface of the water. Smoker breaks the water next to you, carefully pushing you out of the water before climbing out as well, breathing and coughing heavily. You choke on water that had invaded your lungs, the taste of it almost making you vomit.

"Th-tha-thank you." You manage in between gagging and coughing. You back away from the edge of the pool, afraid that there were more of those creatures lurking beneath the murky water. He crawls over to you.

"A-Are you okay?" He manages, touching your shoulder.

"I-I d-don't know." You shake your head, pain still throbbing in your leg from where one of the creatures had slashed at you. "My l-leg hurts." He looks at the injuries on you.

"Alright, don’t think of it, let’s get you out of here and then we'll take care of it." He picks you up bridal style carrying out through the exit and out of the building, rounding it to go to the truck. You cling to his neck, shaking slightly.

"What w-were those? It was so pretty...and and then it wasn't..."

"Sirens... A whole nest... Too close." He breathes, holding you tighter.

"Thank you. Thank you for coming to find me. Thank you for rescuing me. Thank you...for caring." You mumble into his chest, the weight of the last few days crashing down on you.

"It’s going to be alright... Go ahead and let it out." He tells you, stopping at the truck door. You fist your hands into the fabric of his shirt, a sob escaping your lips.

"Why is this happening to me? I don't understand?! What did I do wrong?" He frowns lightly, carefully dropping to his knees.

"I'm sorry... It's my fault you're seeing this world... I should’ve been more careful." He apologizes carefully.

"It's not your fault." You mumble, shaking your head quickly and sniffling. "You've done nothing but protect me! I would have ended up in this mess with or without you." He sighs lightly, shifting since he wasn’t sure how to help you feel better.

"Once we get you cleaned up.. Wanna get ice cream?" He offers, peering at your face. "We're both going to need a shower first though." You giggle, wiping tears from your face.

"Sure. Ice cream. But you're right, we do need a shower." You sniffle, plucking something from his hair and tossing it on the ground.

"Yeah probably best to shower before I patch you up, still have to get new bandages." He smiles slightly, opening the truck door and setting you in passenger’s seat. Closing the door, he goes to the driver's side, getting in and taking off his now soaked jacket, tossing it in the backseat, blood and injuries marking his torso. Your eyes scan the new injuries that littered his body, making you frown.

"It seems that you’re worse off than I am."

"I'm more used to it though. " He shrugs, backing the truck up, stopping briefly as he spots the motorcycles still sitting next to the school. He briefly searches the truck before finding a hunting rifle. With a hum he leans out of the window with it, firing at one of the gas cans before sitting back to watch the motorcycles explode like dominoes. Your eyes widen as the explosions rock the truck.

"Wow...I guess they won't be catching back up anytime soon. If they got away from...the dragonfly things."

"Yeah, they won't be bugging you anytime soon, by the time they wake from the pixie dust, the police should be here." He rumbles, before driving back to town.

"So... I kicked your door down when he took you... I paid the innkeeper but you’re going to have to share my room with me until we leave..." He tells you.

"Oh...Okay. That's fine." You nod a little, looking out the window. Realizing something, you furrow your eyebrows, glancing back over at Smoker. "Wait...how did you get a truck?"

"... I stole it..." He confesses with a straight face.

"Y-you stole the truck?" You stare at him in shock before breaking into laughter. "That is the best thing I've heard today. And you're so chill about it like it was the easiest thing you've ever done."

"... It was unlocked... I was in a hurry and it was begging to be stolen." He rubs his neck. "I'll put it back, it smelt like a brewery when I got in so chances are the owner is passed out in the inn." You continue giggling at his somewhat awkward explanation.

"Well, I'm glad you stole it. Besides, if the owner is passed out drunk, it's not like he needed it anyways. Far more safe in your hands." He smiles a bit.

"Yeah... It's going to stink later though." He chuckles, pulling up to the Inn. He parks it before getting out and coming to your side before picking you up. "Grab my jacket and put it over yourself, they tore up your clothes pretty bad." You look down at yourself, blushing lightly.

"O-oh okay." You nod, reaching back to grab his jacket and covering yourself up quickly. "Better?"

"Yeah," He hums before carrying you inside and up to his room, setting you in the bathtub once he reaches the bathroom. "Go ahead and wash up, I'll put your things outside the door." He tells you straightening up and going to the door, "Oh, and ___," He stops to peer back at you. "Nice shot earlier, you saved my ass back there." He smiles briefly before closing the door. You smile, reaching to turn the water on. Stripping your torn clothes from your body, you set them on the floor beside the tub. You scrub your entire body, trying to rid yourself of the smell of the water from the pool, even going so far as to wash your hair a few times more than you normally would. Once you're done, you pull yourself from the tub, using the counter to keep yourself up to wrap a towel around you.

"Outside the door..." You murmur, opening the door a bit and spotting your backpack. You pull it into the bathroom, changing into a tank top and a pair of shorts before maneuvering your way into the main room. Smoker walks in with a store bag, already clean and bandaged up.

"Alright, stay still," He comes over, kneeling in front of you and taking out the medical supplies he had just bought, starting to bandage you up. You watch him, smiling a bit as he patched up your leg and the few scratches on your arm.

"So, are all the mythical storybook creatures real? Or just the terrifying ones?”

"I find new ones too often to be sure." He shrugs slightly, pulling back and looking you over before giving you a small tub of ice cream and a plastic spoon.

"My favorite." You smile, opening the ice cream happily and eating a spoonful with a content hum. "What about...Unicorns? Ever run into one of those?

".... I've been stabbed by one..." He says bluntly. "But they're more like shapeshifters, that’s why they're hard to find." He shrugs.

"Shapeshifters?" You question, glancing at him curiously. "What are those exactly?"

"I... Don’t know much about them. They like being human, and they can only turn into the same species, like... Feline, K-9, Equestrian..." He scratches his chin. "They don’t normally cause trouble."

"Oh, I see." You nod, going back to your ice cream deep in thought. That would somewhat explain the way you had changed into a cat and then an ocelot. Both were members of the feline family. But even with that information, you were left with questions of how and why you had ended up that way. If it was something you had done, or maybe inherited...He watches you for a moment before climbing onto the bed and settling in.

"You can watch something if you wish.." You snap out of your thoughts, giving him a smile.

"Okay." Picking up the remote, you flip through channels until you find something interesting and set it back down. After a few commercials, you hear a soft snore escape him and look back to find Smoker fast asleep. It seemed like he hadn't slept at all since you met. You smile a little. At least he was getting some sleep now, he probably needed it. You watch him for a few seconds before curling up in the chair you were in, eyes going back to the TV to finish the show you had started watching.

After an hour or so, he sits up with a yawn, rubbing his cheek. "Sleep okay?" You ask, looking over at him. He glances at you before nodding slightly.

"Ready to go get what you'll need?"

"Yeah, we can. You sure you don't need some more sleep or anything?"

"I'll be fine." He assures, getting up and rolling his shoulders before grabbing his wallet. You grab your backpack, taking your wallet from it and putting it under your arm, tossing the bag on the floor.

"Okay. Ready to go." You hum, going to the door. He pauses briefly, placing your bag on the chair before leading you out. You raise an eyebrow at him but don't question it, following him out of the hotel.

    "So...what do I need?"

"First... Protection, like a hunting knife, or something you can also use while traveling, probably a tent or something to keep dry and warm... Food, better footwear..." He lists off. You blink in shock at everything he had listed off so far. Looks like you wouldn't have any money left after this shopping trip.

    "So a lot of stuff."

"Yes... Probably a bigger backpack too." He says, leading you into a store that had the gear. He starts to guide you through the aisles, letting you pick out what you wanted and giving you tips on some things. You look over everything in the cart, trying to figure out how much it would cost you. When you reach the register, you get your wallet ready but Smoker lightly pushes it down, handing the cashier his credit card.

“Are you sure? That’s a lot of stuff.” You murmur, frowning lightly at the bags of stuff.

"It's fine, just buy dinner.” He rumbles with a shrug.

“If you say so.” You hum, taking some of the bags once he gets the receipt. “I guess we should take this stuff back to the hotel and then go get something to eat? Or maybe order something for delivery. I don’t really mind either way.”

"Up to you, you're paying," He points out helping you carry everything.

"Well, after the day I've had, delivery sounds wonderful." You tell him with a smile. "Chinese okay with you?"

"Sounds good." He nods, "When do you want to head out to the next town?"

"What about a little after dark? That way we don't have to pay for another day here. Keep us out of the heat and all." You shrug, carrying the bags up the stairs to the room. "Unless you'd rather travel when it’s light out?"

"I don't mind either way, just let me check the news first, it could keep us from running into another... Thing." He says. Opening the door for you. You nod, going into the room and setting all the bags down next to the wall with a sigh. Grabbing a phone book, you flip through it until you find the number for a Chinese delivery place, using the phone from the room to call and order food for the both of you. Smoker starts to set up your new backpack. "I'll carry the bigger things so you can have more room for the rest."

"Oh alright." You hum, once the food was ordered. Taking your old bag from the chair, you set it on the desk, pulling out a few of the things you had brought with you. The clothes from earlier needed to be thrown away, so that left with two more pairs to switch between. Other than that you didn't really have much left in the bag and everything that you did have would fit in the new one. He peers at what you had left.

"Sure you don't want anything else before we leave tonight?" He inquires. You look over your stuff again, shaking your head.

"No. I think I'll be fine."

"If you say," He says before sitting down. "Two towns over huh..." He breathes.

"Mhmm. It's a real small place." You hum, packing your extra clothes into the new bag. Throwing the torn clothes into the old backpack, you toss it in the trash can. "Nice enough though I guess."

"Small is nice, but usually there's a few secrets..." He gets up, going to the window and opening it before sitting on the windowsill to light his cigars.

"Yeah, that's probably true. There was always weird stuff going on around there. Never paid much attention to it though." You tell him, pulling your feet into your chair to rest your chin on your knees. He hums, peering at you.

    "Do miss that place?"

"I don't know if miss is the right word exactly." You say, shrugging. "I've spent a lot of time in and out of there. It's the only constant in my life, so it holds a lot of memories, but most of them aren't exactly happy. Always being sent back there, you start to lose hope that you'll find a place to call home." He frowns lightly before looking out at the darkening sky.

"I don't think home is necessarily a place. It’s when you feel safe and happy."

"I like the sound of that." You smile a little. "Maybe, once I figure everything out, I'll find something like that."

"Yeah." He breathes and knock sounds on the door, "Must be the Chinese Food." He comments.

"Good. I'm starving." You smile, grabbing your wallet and going to the door. Paying for the food, you wish the delivery man a good night and take everything inside, setting it down on a table by the window. "Hope this is good." He moves to sit with you, moving your chair out for you.

    "Smells good."

"It does." You hum, sitting down in the chair he had pulled out for you. "Here, this one's yours."

"Thank you." He rumbles starting to eat, peering back to the window.

"No problem." Following his gaze, you eat, watching the sun dip below the horizon. A soft sigh leaves you as you finish your food, throwing the container in the trash. "Well, ready to get back on the road?"

"I am if you are, but let me change your bandages first." He says, tossing his container before grabbing the medkit from his bag. After he does so you both head out, returning your room keys. The two of you step out onto the sidewalk, the moon casting shadows around the two of you.

    "Let's get going then..."
